Studies on Photosynthesis of Perennial vines (Actinidia arguta , Celastrus orbiculatus , Lonicera japonica , Lonicera japonica var . aureoreticulata , Lonicera sempervirens)

Abstract
The effect of light intensity and temperature on the photosynthetic activity of five species of perennial vines was investigated with the infrared gas analyzer (IRGA). All the experiments were carried out under controlled conditions with the atmosphere containing 310¡340 ppm of CO©ü and with the incandescent lamps as light source in a thermo-controlled chamber. Light intensities were varied between 1.12¡¿10^(-2)§º/§² .min and 7¡¤8¡¿10^(-2) §º/§² .min and temperatures were maintained at between 5¡É and 30¡É
The light-photosynthesis relationship was little affected by changes of light intensities in Lonicera sempervirens, but in Actinidia arguta and Lonicera joponica var. aureoreticulata it was so much affected when light intensity was changed upward. Photosynthetic activity of Actinidia arguta increased as the light intensity goes up, and its maximum photosynthtic activity was 11.03§· CO©ü/ d§³. hr at 7.80 ¡¿ 10^(-3)§º/§². min light intensity. Dark respiration in Actinidia arguta was 7. 59§· CO©ü/d§³. hr at 25¡É. The photosynthesis and respiration in Actinidia arguta were higher than those of other experimental plants through the whole range of light intensity and temperature. Maximum photosynthetic activity in Lonicerjaponica var. aureoreticulata, Loniceara japonica, Celastrus orbiculatus and Lonicera sempervirens were 7.27, 4.80, 3.95. and 2.38§· CO©ü/d§³. hr in 7.8 ¡¿ 10^(-2)§º/§² .min.
Photosynthetic activity was considerably affected by the temperatures in five species of perennial vines. Photosynthetic activities of Actinidia arguta and Lonicera japonica var. aureoreticulata were attained their maximum value 21.00 and 7.34§· CO©ü/d§³. hr around 15¡É and fell above 20¡30¡É. The maximum photosynthetic activities of Celastrus orbiculatus and Lonicera sempervirens at 10¡É were 3.36 and 2.78§· CO©ü/d§³. hr. and maximum value in Lonicera japonica was seen at 15¡20¡É.
